While writing this week’s recap, I was a bit confused and unsure of how exactly I was going to summarize last week’s HTT. In all honesty, I probably won’t be able to summarize everything but I’ll try and touch on the main outcomes. So… let’s get to it.
Last week, we spoke about MONEY!…
HOW DO YOU MONETIZE A BLOG!
What does it even mean? How do you go about it? When should you start Monetizing your blog? Is it even necessary to do so?
Do you see what I mean? There were so many questions asked and so many insights shared from different bloggers of different niches and with different blog experiences, it’s hard to put it all into one post. Nonetheless, to summarize what was said, I’ll answer each question one at a time.
1. What does ‘Monetize a blog’ mean?
Monetizing a blog basically means making money from your blog. Whether it’s by hosting adverts on a blog or selling products and services on a blog. Anything that can be a means of earning income via a blog can be classed as monetizing a blog.
2. How do you go about it?
A lot of people hold the common misconception that Monetizing a blog means signing up to AdSense or placing Ads on your blog alone. This is not so. Yes placing Ads on your blog is one of the ways to monetize a blog but sometimes are not the most lucrative ways of making money from a blog. Joining a blogger affiliate program, collaborating with brands and getting paid to review products or services, starting a shop section on your blog, creating your own product(s) and selling them using blogging as your publicity or point of sale medium are all ways you can make money from blogging
When should you start thinking of Monetizing your blog?
Whenever you feel you’re ready! However, it is best to work towards building a loyal following and an audience that is truly interested in what you blog about. That said, it is important to note that starting a blog with the sole aim of making money from the start can be very dangerous. Like any profession or business, growth takes time. With blogging, it takes a substantial amount of time for people to begin to trust your content and get to know you before they are able to buy your products or for brands to advertise with you.
Is it necessary to Monetize a blog?
No! It’s not. It’s completely up to you. Do you want to be a professional blogger? Do you want your main source of income to be from blogging? Do you want blogging to be a part time job? Is blogging just a hobby for you?
Depending on which one of these questions you answered ‘Yes’ to it’s pretty obvious which ones will mean monetizing your blog should be top on your ‘blog-to-do list’ and which ones monetization can take a back seat to.
So… I think that about sums it up!
I hope this was helpful and be sure to join us every Thursday between 7pm and 9pm on Hot Topic Thursday to discuss those things that matter to you!
