Another week has gone and while we’re getting ready for another session of Hot Topic Thursday, I thought it’ll be a great idea to have a quick recap of some of the outcomes from last week’s discussion!

Last week on Hot Topic Thursday #HTT, we had 7 voices on the Hot Topic Forum sharing their views and thoughts on the Topic of the week!

Is an Instagram follower count an indication of how good a blogger is?

After sharing a few personal experiences, reasons behind why it may or may not matter amongst many more, here are a few conclusions that can be drawn from the discussion:

1. The number of Instagram followers a blogger has does not indicate how great the blogger is in terms of content and creativity.
2. However, how many followers you have on Instagram can sometimes be a reflection of how good you are at marketing yourself on social media and also your social networking skills!
3. How many followers a blogger has only tends to be really important when it comes to working with brands. This is because brands prefer working with bloggers with a large number of followers, not because young bloggers aren’t just as good but because they have a wider reach and hence are more likely to spread the word about the brand to a wider audience.
4. That said, it is not always about how many followers you have but the quality of your followers – i.e. Are they active? Do they interact with you and do they respond to your content?
