Before we get into the post, let’s start by defining who a snob is as there seems to be a lot of confusion about this. According to my sources (Wikipedia haha) a snob is…

“… a human who believes there is a correlation between social status and human worth.”

“… a person who believes that some people are inherently inferior for any one of a variety of reasons, including real or supposed intellect,wealth, education, ancestry, power… ” etcetera.

While this may be true for some people and not just bloggers, the vast majority of bloggers who are seen as snobs are not actually snobs by definition. In addition to that, the actions of some might be seen as snubbish but are not so in all cases.

So during last week’s HTT…

Why are some bloggers snobs? Or are they?

… while we discussed why some bloggers might be seen as snobs, there were some very interesting points highlighted during the discussion. However, the main ones were :

1. Not every collaboration request will be met with a ‘Yes’. Therefore, if your request is declined, it doesn’t mean you were snubbed. This could have been influenced by the approached used to ask for what you want or even what you’re asking for. No one wants to be approached in a not so nice way and no one wants to feel used. EVERY collaboration, between two bloggers or even a brand and blogger should be of benefit to both parties.
2. Some people are genuinely busy and your message could have gotten ‘lost’. Some bloggers have a lot of messages to go through and in the midst off it all, yours could have been overlooked unconsciously. Hence, not getting a response in this case does not mean you were snubbed.
3. There will be sometimes that you just don’t want to work with a certain person. It’s not because anything is wrong with them or their content but you may not have a common ground with the person in question. Your content and theirs may not be along the same lines or collaborations might not be an option for you.

So yes, while some people might be snobs, most bloggers aren’t. However, if you are 100% sure you were snubbed, don’t take it to heart. It’s all part of life and the growth process and you can’t always have what you want.
