    Hi everyone!

I hope you’re doing great and to those of you I met at the Lagos brunch last week ‘Hiiiiiii!’ It was nice meeting you all!

So following on from the brunch last weekend, there was a lot of advice surrounding knowing yourself as a blogger, creating something unique to you and generally branding yourself! But what does that mean? Or should I say what do you understand as branding a blog or yourself?

This is such a crucial topic honestly! It’s probably one of the most battled with issues a blogger can face. For me, until recently, I saw ‘branding’ as a way to box myself into a certain category and for some reason, that was a bad thing.

I’ve come to realise/believe that branding yourself has more to do with how you want to be perceived or approached than just what you want to put out on your site and although the two are often entwined, they are not the same thing if that makes sense.

Ps, Can’t wait to meet my fellow bloggers tomorrow!!

Hi Annabel! Thanks for joining us today. I must say I agree with you completely.

There’s a lot of misconception around branding yourself as a blogger and like you said a lot of people do think it means sticking to one particular thing or blogging about a certain thing alone but it’s much deeper than that.

It’s everything about you as a blogger – How your emails look, how your blog looks, how it feels, what do you want people to remember you for and so on…

For some people it might be the consistency in the way you post or like Nobel Igwe mentioned last week, the way you pose in pictures and so on, No?

But… how do you choose the area or aspect or ‘thing’ you want to make your thing or how does one start the branding process?

    Thoughts anyone?

Hi demi and annabel…I think this topic is quite broad in a way..or let’s just say i am still thinking it… i think branding is Effort..I mean the effort and hardwork you put into blogging and your blog itself..Then the outcome is the package that makes it a brand… Let’s just hope i am making sense

Branding a blog is like appending your signature on a document. Doing you-giving your blog a personal style-I’m not talking about a style that has been slightly modified by the billions of bloggers out there.
This topic reminds me of a poem I used to love to much. *To thine own self be true* and in an industry such as ours, it’s so easy to lose your personal touch because there are others with larger followings than yours and you therefore affix more importance or preference to their own style or fashion sense as opposed to yours.
Staying true to yourself and to your voice is what I term as personal/blog branding

Hi Barakah! Nice to have you here again hun… I think you might be overthinking the word ‘Branding.

Branding yourself or you blog can be something as simple as the way you end your posts… The way you post your pictures on instagram… Your blog colour scheme… The way you caption your post… The way you take selfies… it’s just something or a bunch of things that you as a blogger do that is unique to you or when people talk about you they say

‘Oh Demi, she always does this. That’s her signature thing’

Then you can now extend it to your whole self as a blogger like Annabel touched on earlier…

Hello everyone. I’m a new blogger so I’ll just share my two cents on the little I’ve learnt since I started.
I think branding is mainly about your style, that is, the way you pose in pictures, the tone you use in blogging, how you arrange your feed on social media and so on. Its all about what you’re known for and what’s unique to you.
    Hope I’m making sense xx

Word! @Onyekachi… I definitely agree with you hun. Staying true to yourself and letting your true self show is a good way to start the branding process.

@tosin I think you’re making sense. Your voice, how you plan your Instagram feed, how you end posts, how you lose in pictures…basically expresses your personality

    Hi Tosin!

Thanks for joining us today hun! – It’s so nice to have you here and for a new blogger you definitely have the right idea about branding yourself as a blogger…

However (Directed to everyone now), what’s the easiest way to pick what you want to make your thing? Looking at what works for others? Searching on google? lol
